Dirang in Western Arunachal Pradesh is a great overnight tourist destination close to Tawang. Dirang is located between Jorhat in Assam and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. Dirang and Bomdila are both overnight destinations. Most tourists stay in one of these two places while going and in the other place while returning. It is one of the smallest town of Arunachal Pradesh located about 43 km from Bomdila (another major tourist spot) on the way to Tawang at an altitude of 4900 ft with nice pleasant cold weather throughout the year for tourist to experience and enjoy the place.
Dirang Dzong (Fort) - a place with close proximity to Bhutan and has a huge bhutanese influence especially visibly in the local fort. About 150 years old it has some stone houses around the Dzong which is said to be about 500 years old. The entry is through stone staircase. You can get an excellent view of the surrounding area from here.
Hot Water Spring - You will find the stairs to hot spring about a kilometre ahead of the Dirang town on the way to Tawang. The hot spring is considered to have great medicinal properties with rich sulphur content. You can rejuvenate a tired body by taking a bath in the hot spring, bathing facilities are available.
Yak Research Centre - Above the main town is the National Research Centre on Yak. The centre also has a yak farm at Nyukmandung about 31 km from Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh.
