While this Kashmiri proverb indicate relief after hardship, literally represents the opening the tulip garden on this spring.

Asia's largest tulip garden opened for visitors on March 2025, located at the base of Zabarwan hills in Srinagar, is a picturesque mountain range bordering the central part of Kashmir.

The garden was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, also sported traditional "Kashmiri pheran", and interacted with several tourists. There had already been a fair amount of publicity by the government for the opening ceremony via local broadsheet newspaper advertisements announcing about the event on the front page.

With more than 1.7 million tulips of 74 varieties, the well-maintained garden bursting with riot of colors is expected to draw record-breaking number of visitors. Flowers such as hyacinths, diffodils, muscari and cyclamen stand ready for welcoming tourists.

On the first day of inauguration, tourists both local and from out of the state, lined up in serpentine queues to enter the garden. Last year, more than 460,000 tourists visited the garden, whereas in 2023 there were 370,00 and in 2022, there were 360,000 visitors. An official told businessline that online tickets were made available for the first time to visitors.

Ticketing is QR based and has been introduced at a few location, including the Airport." The official said that the record number of tourists is expected to arrive this season.

The Garden:

The garden, which is around 74 acres in dimensions, set up in 2007 to create an avenue for tourism in the region by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, at a time when militancy was still a major concern, to boost the region's tourism sector.

The tulip garden was set up with thousands of bulbs imported from the Netherlands. The world Tulip Summit Society declared it the second-best garden in the world in 2014.

Every year, hundreds of gardeners beavered away for several months before the opening of the garden.
