Scenic beauty, short treks and peaceful ambience best describes Thangu located at an altitude of 13000ft, 30 kilometers north of Lachen in North Sikkim neargurudongmar Lake which is the second highest lake in India. The months of April to June is best to see this North Sikkim valley covered with alpine flowers which are replaced by snow from October up to March. The view during these seasons is really mesmerizing and exceptional. Thangu can be an ideal place for the real nature lovers as it provides a base for fabulous trek routes to Chopta valley and Muguthang, a land of the nomadic people. Thangu is one of the finest offbeat destination in North Sikkim and few home stays have also come up to accommodate tourists. The distance from Gangtok to Lachen is about 6 to 7 hours drive. Normally tourists prefer to stay overnight at Lachen and visit Thangu while moving towards Gurudongmar Lake
