The Bhairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project, which would connect Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, is nearly complete at 93%. This 51.38-kilometer line would reduce travel time and expenses while significantly improving connectivity between Mizoram and Assam. The project includes 55 main bridges and numerous tunnels, with 12,807 meters of tunneling completed to date. Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang will be among the stops on the route. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is committed to completing the project on time, despite constraints such as difficult terrain and heavy monsoons.
When completed, the railway line will facilitate trade, communication, and tourism, benefiting small businesses while providing a more cost-effective and ecologically friendly mode of transportation. Along with connections to Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Assam, it is part of a broader Indian Railways effort to improve connectivity in the northeastern region. By expanding transportation linkages with the rest of India, the new line will increase access to needs while also accelerating Mizoram's economic growth.
