Mankhim

A unique treasure in the gem box of Sikkim, Mankhim, a mesmerising hilltop destination towering over the village of Dalapchand offers spectacular view of the Kanchenjunga is located adjacent to a stunning lake in Aritar, a small village, under Rongli sub-division of East Sikkim. Lampokhri Lake is arguably the greatest tourist attraction in the region offering breathtaking bird’s eye view of the Lake in Aritar, which with its emerald green water looks like a human foot from that high altitude. On a clear day, one can also view the Jelep La and the village of Zuluk. Aritar Monastery, is the place to visit for art lovers, houses several ancient Buddhist murals, artefacts, vintage arts and manuscripts from the ancient times. Mankhim, the temple of the Khambu belongs to the medieval Hindu cult known as Rai. Once you visit the temple, you would get an amazing unobstructed view of the Himalaya. You can also reach nearby tourist spots, the Mulkarkha Lake and the Dak Bungalow, a colonial era establishment.

Mankhim would be the perfect destination to start your trip and subsequently touching spots like Pedong, Icchey Gaon and Sillery Gaon. In order to reach Mankhim you need to reserve a car from Siliguri/NJP (nearest railway station)/ Bagdogra (nearest Airport). Spring and summer are the best season to visit Mankhim with amicable weather conditions. Winters would give you the opportunity to enjoy the sunrise over the icy peaks of Mt. Kanchenjungha and also escape the heat and humidity of the plains.

The wobbling hills of Mankhim would offer you only Homestays but with complete fooding and lodging facilities. Few cottages are also available, which not only provide the homely environment and hygienic food but overlooks the mighty Kanchenjungha mountain range.
