Ko Phi Phi is a small archipelago in Krabi Province, Southern Thailand situated near Phuket. The Phi Phi Islands are a group of six small islands, which is administratively a part of the Krabi province of Thailand. They are situated 40 kilometre southeast of the Phuket Island, in the Andaman Sea. These are made of sandstone rocks projecting out of the sea and feature cliffs, beaches with white sand, mountains, and caves. KohPhi Phi has some of the prettiest beaches in Southeast Asia. Located not far from Krabi and Phuket, these picture perfect islands offer the ultimate tropical getaway containing tropical beaches, stunning rock mountains and vivid turquoise waters blending seamlessly with colourful marine life is nothing sort of a paradise.
The demography of the island is mixed with Muslim, Buddhist and sea gypsies. Boat launching ceremonies and races are organized by the sea gypsies who come to the island for a brief period of time in the year. Although English is compulsorily taught under school curriculum, the less-educated native people speak a rural dialect of Thai, which is also the official language. The tourism department staff members of the island and the various tour operators have embraced English to communicate with the tourists.
The culture of Phi Phi Islands includes the numerous entertaining activities like scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, swimming, diving, hiking in the forested hills, rock climbing, sunbathing at the beaches and singing and dancing around campfires at night. Apart from experiencing the natural beauty, you would also get a chance of meeting people like you from around the world, making new friends and learning titbits of foreign languages. The beautiful beaches of the aligning islands are a must see, the popular beaches are Monkey Beach, Maya Bay and Bamboo Island Beach.
The weather of Phi Phi Island is basically divided into the dry season which lasts from December to April and the wet season from May to November. The dry season makes an ideal time for tourism and enjoy most of the water based activities. The heat during this season doesn't prove to be that bothersome.
Phi Phi Islands does not have an airport and can be accessed through the Krabi International Airport which is the closest to the island. This airport has numerous airlines and number of flights flying to different destinations across the world every day. Some of the airline operating here are AirAsia flies, Bangkok Airways, China Southern Airlines, Finnair, Firefly, Hong Kong Airlines, etc.For people travelling from other part of Asia and South-Asia, the nearest major airport is the Phuket International Airport. From Phuket and Krabi the only way to Ko Phi Phi is by boat.
