According to the Indian Express, Iran has announced that it is lifting visa requirements for citizens of India as well as 32 other countries. Indian citizens who are planning a trip to Iran aren’t required to apply for a visa if they wish to go for short stays (tourism). However, they are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA or eVisa) before entering Iran.
According to iVisa, the validity of an Iran eVisa is 30 days. The eVisa is valid for a single entry to Iran and can be extended twice for a total stay of 90 days. Also, to remember that your passport should have at least six months of validity beyond your actual travel date to apply for all type of electronic visas.
Recently, aiming at boosting tourism and encourage international goodwill, the Iranian Cabinet, led by Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Ezzatollah Zarghami, has unilaterally decided to waive visa requirements for visitors from India. This decision was announced recently which reflects Iran’s commitment to attracting a diverse range of tourists from around the globe.
Similarly, the other countries like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, all of which recently waived visa requirements for Indian visitors. By cancelling visa requirements and expanding their visa-waiver program, Iran is positioning itself as a more accessible and inviting travel destination for international visitors.
This move not only supports the tourism industry but also contributes to eliminate negative perceptions, promoting cultural understanding, and strengthen economic growth through increased tourist arrival.
