Sudarshan Setu, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This impressive bridge connects the Okha mainland to the Beyt Dwarka island din Gujarat. Here are some key details about this remarkable infrastructure:
1. Length and Cost:
The Sudarshan Setu spans approximately 2.32 kilometers and is constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 980 crore. It holds immense significance for devotees visiting the Dwarkadhish Temple.
2. Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge:
Sudarshan Setu, previously known as the “Signature Bridge,” is India’s longest cable-stayed bridge. The bridge also features solar panels installed on the upper portions of the footpath, generating one megawatt of electricity. It is a four-lane bridge with 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on each side. The pathway of Sudarshan Setu is adorned with verses from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides. The bridge facilitates easier travel between Dwarka, eliminating the reliance on boats for transportation.
3. Other Notable Cable-Stayed Bridges in India:
Bandra- Worli Sea Link: The freeway over the open sea, connecting Worli and Bandra. Manohar Setu (Goa): An eight-lane cable-stayed bridge over the Zuari River. The other one is Kota-Chambal Bridge (Rajasthan): A six lane hanging bridge across the Chambal River.
The Sudarshan Setu not only enhances connectivity but also stands as a prominent tourist attraction in Devbhumi Dwarka. Its unique design and cultural significance make it remarkable addition to India’s infrastructure landscape.
