Ghoom Monastery is located opposite to the Batasia Loop in Darjeeling, approximately 6 kms from the main town. It was built in the year 1850. You will find a beautiful 15-foot model of the Lord Buddha which is known as The Maitreya Buddha which means the Buddha of the future or the Coming Buddha. Some of the rare handwritten Buddhist manuscripts are also preserved within the Monastery. Tourists visiting this place are advised to come either early morning or late evening to get a glimpse of the beauty of the Himalaya and the rising or setting sun. Magnificent views!! Facing the monastery if you look towards the left, you get sweeping views of the snow capped peaks including Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain of the world
