Kashmir is experiencing drought like worsen conditions of insufficient snowfall during this winter season. Dry weather has led tourism to experience a hit. So, tourists are escaping themselves from visiting due to snowfall inadequacy.

The tourism sector has suffered immensely due to a snowless winter, with cancellations of bookings of nearly 50% recorded. Non-substantial snowfall has caused authorities to defer the fifth edition of Khelo India Winter Games scantily announced to be held in Gulmarg from February, which led hotels to incur huge losses majorly due to the complete cancellation of the week-long Khelo India Winter Games. Visitors are disheartened, as most come to Kashmir for a glimpse of idyllic snow.

Despite the discouraging situation, some hope has been rekindled for the revival of tourism, courtesy of the recent snowfall in higher reaches like Gulmarg, as more snow rain is on hand for the latter part of the month.

From the month of November, the tourists used to be available in the region to take part in snow activities. January-February is usually being the time to enjoy snow activities. Water bodies in the area are running below the zero-level point in several areas, and certain springs have completely dried because of water table recession, instilling fear among the indigenous people. Since tourists are keeping away from the region.
