Current Tourism Situation in India
According to Ministry of Tourism, Over 6.19 million and 1.52 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2022 & 2021 respectively compared to 10.93 million in 2019 mostly due to the effect of Covid, representing a -44% de growth India has bigger domestic tourist population so it's not dependent on foreign tourist much.
Foreign tourist arrivals in India stood at 3.13 million in the first four months of calendar year 2023, up from 1.17 million arrivals in the year-ago period, according to the data from ministry of tourism. Indian travellers are taking it slow in 2023, with 46 per cent more travellers opting for more immersive travel over fast-paced travel, which is 40 per cent, said the report.
The growth of tourism has increased recently because of advance growth in technology that is travel is now easier, quicker and more affordable. The growth of the internet means it is easier than ever before to book holidays. New travel formats like eco-tourism, solo travel, e-tourism, micro-adventures, and life-long travel are emerging to meet increasingly fragmented and personalised needs.
Currently India beats major tourist destinations like South Korea, Egypt, and Australia to be the 22nd most Visited country in the world.
