Situated at an altitude of 1,401 meters covering an area of nearly 4 square miles. It is shaped like a conch - shell. Bhaktapur literary means city of devotees. Pottery and weaving are its traditional industries. The city is nearly 15 kilometers East of Kathmandu. This city is the tourism hub and one of thee main city situated in the Kathmandu Valley. The other two cities are Lalitpur (Patan) and Kathmandu. Situated at an altitude of 1336 meter, the Kathmandu Valley covers an area of 218 square miles.

Railways – Nepal has railway connections with its neighboring country, India. Two stretches of railway are Raxaul (India) to Amlekhganj (Nepal) and the other is Raxaul (India) to Janakpur (Nepal). Buses are available for Kathmandu from Janakpur and Amlekhganj. All the bordering towns of Indo - Nepal are served by Indian Railway system.
Roadways - Bhaktapur is nearly 15 kilometers East of Kathmandu. Roadways are the only other alternatives. Roads are good and have developed in the last few years.
