The administration of Kalimpong district begins development of a promotional strategy, which highlights both adventure tourism and community growth initiatives. The tourism promotion plan was announced to the public in a program celebrating district establishment eight years ago. Tourism stands as the main economic source that supports the residents of Kalimpong. Attention to sustainable community based tourism drives work on developing tourism related plans while the administration continues to meet with tourism stakeholders to enhance sectorial development.
Members of the youth population conduct adventure activities as part of their activities such as group trekking, some enviromental siteseeing throughout Neora Valley National Park along with other biodiversity areas developing potiential tourism opportunities for enviroment based experiences. They promotes youngsters to organize group trekking activities to enhance environment based tourism program, the organization offers training courses for guides and training birds watching and for hospitality management.
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) had previously plans established in the district as the main adventure tourism destination, various districts along the riverbanks have been selected by the GTA's tourism department to create hot-air ballons alongside hiking areas and camping grounds and water sport facilities. The administration aims to create small industries that will include fruit processing facalities and agro based units. The district maintains active micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) units in addition to functioning with ten MSME clusters. The district continues its initiative to establish new mushroom and handloom cluster facalities.
