5 Reason for considering Mukteshwar; the summer weekend gateway journey.

When the heat turns cities into concrete ovens, it's time to pack bags for the weekend and head up to the hill. And if, you don't want to be bothered by the crowds in Manali and Nainital. Tucked away in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Mukteshwar the under-the-radar summer getaway that should find its way to your immediate radar. With misty mornings, pine-scented air, and zero pressure to do anything too intense and relax, the little hill town offers a serene landscape to get that much-needed chill for a quick reset.

Here's why Mukteshwar must be your next summer gateway:

1. It's cooler than your average hill:
At a height of 2,285 metres above sea level, Mukteshwar lives for the cool weather breezes that invite you to slip on a sweater and down cups of chai while gazing at the view from your temporary adobe. The best part? You're not going to be hounded by hordes of selfie-stick-wielding throngs every five steps. It's clean, quite serene and still feels like a secret which is a rare in India hill station circuit. Guarantees peace in the city along with a stunning view, whether you're working remotely or just want a breather from the din and the sweltering heat.

2. Here is a whole personality trait: Birdwatching
If you haven't ever stopped mid sentence because a Himalayan griffon just flew past, you're in for a treat. Mukteshwar is a paradise for birdwatchers, as the region is home to over 200 species of birds, from colorful barbets and woodpeckers to elusive mountain hawk-eagles. So pack a pair of binoculars (or just open your balcony window early in the morning) and you will get front-row seats to nature's own morning show.

3. The main character moment: Bhalu's Waterfall
A short, beautiful walk through oak and rhododendron forests will take you to one among the most picturesquely-beautiful spots in Mukteshwar- Bhalu Gaad. The 60-foot waterfall spills into a pool that is natural, ice-cold, crystal clear, and has a rather magical ambiance. Picnic-meets-adventures. Carry good footwear as it becomes a little slippery, and if you're lucky, you may have the whole place to yourself. It's so close to the town that it lets you hike there and still return in time for lunch.

4. You will eat (and sleep) ridiculously well:
Mukteshwar is a town that has bizarrely good eating options. From homestays that serve hot pahadi meals straight from the garden to cafes that have wood-fired pizzas and freshly brewed coffee; that sweet spot of comfort and indulgence. Not to mention, most of the stays here come furnished with floor-to-ceiling windows and cozy wooden interiors and that million-dollar view of the mountains. Whether you're into farm-to-table eats or just a binging on momos by a bonfire, this place sorts you out.

5. Minus the crowds - It's got just enough spiritual energy:
Mukteshwar mahadev temple isn't just about religion; it is an architectural wonder constructed at top of a hill, with panaromic views of the Himalayas. Said to be over 350 years the temple is dedicated to lord Shiva and has a peaceful, old world charm which is now hard to come by. You will not find vendors pushing trinkets or loudspeakers blaring bhajans. Just you, the temple bells and possibly a very photogenic langur or two hanging around.

It is great solo trips, great romantic weekend gateways or even a friends 'road trip': just the kind of place that makes you wonder why haven't i been here sooner. Just remember to keep it a secret- this is what makes Mukteshwar so special.
